Sales of Frozen Foods Soar

Frozen foods' popularity has remained high throughout the pandemic. According to Nielsen, sales of frozen foods were up 22.2% in 2020, as of Aug. 1, and 30.8% for the 22-week period to that same date. Dough saw the largest increase (54% since March) followed by seafood (48.8%) and fruit (46.6%).

Frozen foods' popularity swelled early in the COVID-19 pandemic and it's not going away for Abingdon, Va.-based K-VA-T. "People are eating more meals with their family at home, and whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks, frozen fits because it answers all those needs." says Dan Glei, EVP of merchandising/marketing.

"For Nestle USA, pizza, comfort foods and nutritious meals are driving frozen sales. Pizza sales are currently up more than 50% year over year," says John Carmichael, president of Nestle's foods division.
